50 year-old shop owner attacked by masked machete man
Merseyside Police are appealing for information after a 50-year old shop owner in Tranmere was the target of a machete attack on Friday night.
Police were called to the convenience store on Old Chester Road at around 11pm on Friday evening after reports had circulated that a member of staff had been attacked whilst closing up the shop.
It is believed that the victim was in the process of closing the shutters of the shop when two men approached and attacked him with a machete, before making off with a rucksack.
The victim sustained serious injuries to his legs and neck, and was taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition.
Detective Inspector Chris Hawitt said: "This brutal senseless attack has left an innocent man with serious injuries and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances and locate the offenders.
"To be attacked while simply carrying out your job is disgraceful and has not only left someone seriously injured, but incredibly shaken too.
"An investigation is now under way and we are examining CCTV footage, gathering forensic evidence and carrying out witness enquiries."
